PERUMIN 36 Will Check Compliance with Measures to Achieve National Development Agreed upon during its Previous Edition
Arequipa,
- The “PERUMIN a las nuevas generaciones” (PERUMIN for the new generations) agreement was endorsed by leaders of twelve mining companies in our country in 2022.
Miguel Cardozo, president of PERUMIN 36, stated that in this year’s mining convention, the compliance with the measures established in the "PERUMIN for the new generations" agreement will be reviewed. Through this agreement, the mining industry pledged to forge a closer connection with the children and young people of Peru, especially with those from the most vulnerable areas.
"What we will present in this edition of the mining event will be the result of the work we did to fulfill the tasks we set for ourselves in the previous edition. So, we are going to present what we have done," the executive declared in an interview with the news program "Hora y Treinta," broadcasted by Canal N.
As a reminder, the mentioned agreement proposed the need to achieve a goal of well-being under stable, healthy competitive, and fulfilling coexistence rules, by unlocking the potential of new mining investment projects. This would generate a better quality of life for 16.6 million Peruvians and reduce poverty to levels below 10%.
More than 65,000 attendees
On the other hand, the director of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers also highlighted that PERUMIN, held continuously in the city of Arequipa since 1995, is among the top three mining conferences in the world. It contributes to strengthening Peru's image as the fourth-largest producer of base or non-ferrous metals.
"For this reason, for a whole week, all the world's cameras focus on our country. In this sense, for the thirty-sixth edition of the mining convention, we expect to receive more than 65,000 visitors, as, according to registrations to date, we have exceeded the number of attendees registered in the previous edition," he anticipated.
Copper demand will double
Miguel Cardozo also mentioned that two of the central themes of the Mining Summit, the main event at PERUMIN 36, will be the challenges and opportunities of territorial development, focusing on the 22 regions with mining activity, as well as the global trend in the demand for metals as a favorable scenario for boosting the mining sector.
"In the country's history, we have had many periods when metal prices rise, and companies have taken advantage of them. This can allow us to double copper production, in a context where the demand for metal is also expected to double by 2035. This is an opportunity Peru cannot miss," he asserted.
