Mathias Cormann, Secretary General of the OECD, Will Participate in PERUMIN in September
  • He will be part of a round table discussions about “Economic Policy and Mining,” alongside the EU Ambassador to Peru and the Minister of Energy and Mines.

One of the main highlights of the PERUMIN Mining Convention, taking place from September 25 to 29 in Arequipa, will be the participation of the Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann.

This was announced by Víctor Gobitz, the president of the Mining Summit, PERUMIN’s main platform for dialogue where crucial topics that will shape the agenda of the national mining sector and the country will be discussed.

“Our country’s mission is to become a member of the OECD, hence the significance of Mr. Cormann’s presence at the event,” stated the former president of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers.

It is worth noting that, in mid-2023, Peru submitted the initial memorandum for its accession process to the OECD.

Mathias Cormann will participate in the round table discussion on “Economic Policy and Mining,” alongside Alex Contreras, the Peruvian minister of economy; Óscar Vera Gargurevich, the Peruvian minster of Energy and Mines; and Gaspar Frontini, the European Union ambassador to Peru.

PERUMIN’s organizing committee has also extended an invitation to the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, asking her to be part of the official delegation participating this year in PERUMIN 36.

CEOs and Regional Governors

This edition of PERUMIN will also bring together the most prominent national and international CEOs of the largest mining companies operating in our country to reflect on the challenges and opportunities facing the mining industry and the region in the future.

Some of the CEOs set to attend include Ruben Fernandes, CEO of Base Metals at Anglo American Plc London; Jorge Gómez, CEO of Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi; Carlos Ávila, Asset President at NOJV BHP Minerals Americas; Red Conger, President and COO of Teck Resources; and Oscar González Rocha, President and CEO of Southern Copper Corporation, among others.

The event will also host regional governors, who will discuss and propose mechanisms to articulate actions with the State and private companies. They will also visit the operations of Compañía Minera Cerro Verde, in Arequipa, in order to learn more about how the formal and modern mining industry operates.
