Tomas Cabanillas
Deputy Director, Ministry of Natural Resources Canada
International Business Development professional focused on strategy, commercial diplomacy and public-private partnerships in support of the Canadian mining industry. He currently leads a team established at Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) responsible for the execution of Canada's export promotion strategy for the mining sector. His team is also responsible for Canada's relations with the mining sector in Latin America.
Prior to joining NRCAN, Mr. Cabanillas spent twelve years with Export Development Canada (EDC), Canada's export credit agency, where he held a variety of Business Development positions in various sectors and geographies, including the Mining, Light Manufacturing, Life Sciences and Mexico teams. He was also responsible for implementing and leading a Market Intelligence and Forecasting system across EDC's Business Development Group with the objective of identifying and analyzing transformational trends and their impact on Canada's trade potential. Mr. Cabanillas' professional experience also includes positions with Global Affairs Canada, Service Canada and the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and Worship.
