Juan Carlos Mathews
Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru
Juan Carlos MATHEWS was named Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism on April 23, 2023.
He is an Economist by the Universidad del Pacífico. He specialized in International Business Management at the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium) and in International Marketing at Trinity College Dublin (Ireland).
He has a Master's Degree in Educational Innovation from the EUCIM Business School (Spain) and he is a PhD candidate in Economic and Social Sciences at the Johannes Kepler University, Linz (Austria).
In his service to the Peruvian State, between 2016 and 2017, he was Vice Minister of Micro Small Enterprises and Industry at the Ministry of Production; Executive Director of Prompex (Commission for Exports´ Promotion), between 2009 and 2010; and, between 2015 and 2016, Director of Exports at Promperu (Commission for Exports and Tourism Promotion).
In the corporate sector, he has been the commercial manager of Química Suiza. In the academic field, he has been Deputy to the Rector, Academic Vice-rector and General Director of USIL (Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola) Graduate School as well as Director of the Master's Degree in Global Business and the Executive Education Center at the Universidad del Pacífico in Lima.
He has managed the following international cooperation programs: USAID Competitive MSEs for Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia, executive director of Eurocentro Peru (Al Invest Program, European Commission) and vice president of the World Trade Center (WTC), Lima Peru.
