Monseñor Javier Augusto Del Río Alba

He studied Law at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. He holds a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) and a Doctorate in Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, both in Rome. In recognition of his academic achievements, the Pontifical Gregorian University awarded him the Saint Robert Bellarmine Medal. The illustrious Arequipa Bar Association awarded him the Medals of Honor for Legal Merit in the categories of Arequipa Jurist Toribio Pacheco and Arequipa Jurist Francisco García Calderón y Landa. He was also awarded the Gold Medal by the National University of San Agustín. In addition, he holds honorary doctorates from the Redemptoris Mater School of Theology and the Catholic University of Santa Maria.

He is a member of the Permanent Council of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference, and serves as president of its Legal Committee, the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith, and the Supervisory Commission of the Santa Rosa Priestly Solidarity. At the Vatican, he is a member of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development. He is also vice president of Peruvian Mission, Inc. in the United States of America, chief chaplain of the Order of St. George in Peru, and a member of the Peruvian chapter of the Mining and Faith Reflections Initiative. He is a full member of the Peruvian Academy of Ecclesiastical History and the Peruvian Association of Constitutional Law, and an honorary member of the Arequipa Bar Association, the Peruvian Association of Canon Law Experts, the José Luis Bustamante y Rivero Foundation, and the Interreligious Committee of Arequipa, among other institutions.

He has received the Gold Medal and Certificate of Honor from the Congress of the Republic of Peru, the Medalla al Mérito Ciudadano from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the national recognition Fortalecimiento del Estado Constitucional de Derecho y del Acceso a la Justicia from the Ministry of Justice. He has also been honored with the Amigo de los niños, niñas y adolescentes recognition from the Ombudsman’s Office, the Medalla de Oro de la Ciudad from the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa, the Unión por el Perú Gold Medal, and the Medal of Honor from the National Police of Peru, the National Association Pro Marina of Peru, the Francisco Bolognesi Legion –Grand Marshal of Peru, and the Regional Office of Education of Arequipa. In addition, he received the Valores Familiares Award from the Interreligious Council of Peru – Religions for Peace and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, among other awards and recognitions.
